What are Trigger points?

Trigger points are tiny knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. When muscles and connective tissue contract, nodules or lumps can be felt under the skin, these are incredibly sensitive to pain when pressure is applied. Pressure on these points can often send referred pain to other areas of the body causing joint pain, headaches, neck pain and lower back pain.

Muscle makes up between on average 36-42% of body weight and when all is in working order, muscles allow us to perform normal activities with ease. When our muscles have trigger points, we can experience pain, stiffness and tension, physical limitation and loss of normal function. Trigger points can result from several factors such as: muscle overuse, mechanical overload, stress, lack of exercise, sleep disruption and joint problems.

How does TPT work?

Trigger point therapy (TPT) is a technique in which trigger points undergo a cycle of isolated pressure and release, TPT can also be introduced into other techniques such as massage. After treatment, pain can be significantly reduced and receiving treatment on a regular basis can help reduce pain and stress from chronic injuries and everyday life.
Trigger point therapy is siutable for almost everyone, it is very useful in the relief of:

  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain

Customer Testimonial

I have suffered with Sciatica for years but finally decided to do something about it this year –  I visited Chelmsford Sports Therapy and was prescribed a course of therapy which I also combined with Chiropractic care. After 4 months I do still have some pain, but there has been a massive improvement and I hope to be pain free in the future.
